
Two fitters died in a wind farm accident near Birstein. The public prosecutor's office continues to investigate. An important report is still missing.
Birstein – The accident report on the fatal work accidents in which two fitters fell to their deaths while building a wind turbine in the Fischborn wind farm near Birstein in the Main-Kinzig district at the end of February 2026 is still being investigated by the Hanau public prosecutor's office.
Fatal wind farm accident near Birstein: report is still pending
This was announced in unison by the judicial authority at the beginning of the month and recently by the police headquarters in Southeast Hesse at the request of the Fuldaer Zeitung. The final accident reconstruction report from Dekra is still pending. The bodies of the fatally injured workers were transported to Poland.
The authorities in Hanau do not know whether they were buried there. The same applies to a possible compensation procedure by the property developer consortium with the surviving relatives of the two men, who were both 32 years old on the day of their death.
The two fitters had a fatal accident on February 25th while working on a wind turbine that was currently under construction near Birstein. A work basket fell from a height of 60 meters inside the tower containing the men. The Hanau public prosecutor's office commissioned a report on the accident at the beginning of March.
