The natural pool in Bad Soden-Salmünster is taking shape. The building application has been submitted. The final demolition work is now underway.

Bad Soden-Salmünster – In Bad Soden-Salmünster, things are making progress when it comes to natural swimming pools. While the natural pool in the Spessart village of Mernes starts this year's swimming season on Saturday (May 30th), an important milestone has been reached at the future natural pool in Bad Soden: the building application was submitted a few days ago.

After an intensive planning phase and the submission of the building application, the final concrete cuts will follow in the “existing pool” in Bad Soden in the coming days as part of the demolition work. The concrete material is then broken and the rubble is removed.

The city administration asks for your understanding that there may be noise pollution for a period of probably 14 days. “This is certainly not pleasant for the immediate surroundings, but it is a necessary step. After that, the mountains of rubble will finally be a thing of the past, and once the building permit has been issued, the new building can begin,” said Mayor Dominik Brasch (CDU).

The intensive planning phase was used to carefully clarify open questions about equipment, technical implementation and integration into the existing location. The spa commission looked at future offerings such as a diving rock, a spray park, areas for children and families and the arrangement of the technology in the pool. Together with the municipality and the management of the spa business, it was determined which components should characterize the natural pool.

According to Brasch, further federal funding of around 70,000 euros has been secured as part of the planning and updated cost estimates. “This shows that careful planning can also pay off financially. Every additional euro in funding helps us to responsibly implement this important project for the city,” explains the town hall boss.

The organizational foundations for later support of the natural pool are also being prepared. The statutes of a future support association are currently submitted to the tax office for verification of non-profit status. The aim is to be able to found the support association, if possible, during the same period in which the building permit for the natural pool is granted.

“A project like this not only depends on planning, construction and funding, but also on people who identify with it and want to get involved in the long term. That's why it's good that the foundation of a support association is also being prepared,” the mayor continued.

Start of season and opening times

The Mernes natural pool in Bad Soden-Salmünster opens daily from 1 p.m. to 7 p.m. from Saturday (May 30th), and from 11 a.m. to 7 p.m. during the Hessian summer holidays. If the weather is uncertain, information about opening is available via the natural pool's Google entry and via Whatsapp groups.

“Our goal is a bathroom that suits Bad Soden-Salmünster: close to nature, family-friendly, economically responsible and with a high quality of stay. In the end, what matters is that the solution is sustainable and the future bathroom is attractive to as many people as possible,” says Brasch.

The Mernes natural pool is a good example of what is possible when the city, association, citizens and supporters work together towards a goal: “My special thanks go to the Mernes swimming pool association and all the helpers who contributed with great voluntary commitment to preparing the pool for the new season,” emphasizes the mayor.
