Kalbach – Update from May 18th, 6:24 a.m.: A tragic accident occurred on Sunday evening on the A7 motorway between Bad Brückenau and the Fulda triangle. A 27-year-old man from the Fulda district died of his serious injuries in the Fulda Clinic, the police said. His 18-year-old passenger from Bad Brückenau was seriously but not life-threateningly injured.
Fatal accident: Driver dies on A7 near Uttrichshausen
An accident analysis expert examined the scene of the accident to clarify the cause. During the rescue work, the A7 northbound remained closed for several hours. According to information from the scene of the accident, an Audi was driving in the left lane while a BMW X1 was following a truck in the right lane.
The BMW driver, 27 years old, then apparently moved into the left lane of the motorway near the Rothemann solar park for unknown reasons and apparently overlooked the Audi following behind. A serious collision occurred. The BMW rolled over several times and caught fire. The car came to rest on its roof.
The truck driver put out the fire and freed the BMW driver from the vehicle. Other first responders helped rescue the two seriously injured people. The emergency services took the 27-year-old to the Fulda Clinic. There the man died from his serious injuries. The 18-year-old was taken to hospital with serious injuries.
The Audi driver, 45 years old, suffered minor injuries, while the truck driver was uninjured. The Eichenzell community fire inspector Torsten Gröger spoke of an “unclear situation” when the rescue workers arrived. Unfortunately, the creation of the emergency lane was “a catastrophe”. It was not possible to get through from Kalbach due to the construction site.
First report from May 17th, 9:24 p.m.: A serious traffic accident occurred on the A7 motorway near Kalbach-Uttrichshausen in the Fulda district on Sunday evening (May 17th). Several vehicles collided. As the police reported when asked by the Fuldaer Zeitung, two people were seriously injured in the accident.
According to initial information from the police, a collision occurred on Sunday around 8:15 p.m. on the BAB 7 between the Uttrichshausen rest area and the Fulda triangle, involving two cars and a tractor-trailer. The highway was temporarily closed in both directions.

The police have not yet been able to provide any further information about how the accident occurred. Initially, the A7 was completely closed in both directions between Bad Brückenau-Volkers and the Fulda triangle. The full closure has since been lifted. The motorway is still closed in the direction of Fulda (as of 10 p.m.).
According to police, an expert is currently on site. The accident site then has to be cleared. Meanwhile, a BMW also had an accident on the A66 motorway near Flieden on Sunday after a tire burst. The driver was taken to hospital with minor injuries after the accident.
