Hünfeld – The old wooden bridge over the Hasel in Kastanienallee in Hünfeld has had its day. The municipality of the city of Hünfeld has now awarded the contracts for demolition and new construction to a regional carpentry specialist, as the city announced.

As Mayor Benjamin Tschesnok (CDU) announced, the existing bridge no longer meets current safety standards. In addition, accessibility for wheelchair users is no longer guaranteed. Regular bridge inspections revealed moisture damage to the wooden structure.
According to the city, renovation of the existing building was no longer an option. The specialist company commissioned will therefore demolish the old bridge and build a new one on the existing abutments.
There was also heated discussion about the Flieden Eselswasser Bridge. After the mayor declared the matter a top priority, everything became quiet. In response to an SPD inquiry, it is now said that plans for a new building are taking more concrete form.
