
A semi-trailer truck has an accident on the feeder road to the A7 near Niederaula in East Hesse. 200 liters of diesel escape. The rescue work takes hours.
Niederaula – On the night of Tuesday (May 12th) an accident occurred with a tractor-trailer on the feeder road to the A7 motorway near Niederaula at around 12:30 a.m. The East Hesse Police Headquarters in Fulda reported that a large amount of diesel leaked. Both the entrance and exit to the junction remained closed for several hours.
According to police investigations so far, the 56-year-old driver of the tractor-trailer overlooked the separation of the lanes that separate the north and south directions. As a result, the tractor collided with a guard rail, which damaged the diesel tank.

Around 200 liters of diesel leaked and spread both on the road and in the adjacent soil. The Niederaula fire department used binding agents to bind the spilled fuel. The emergency services also pumped out the remaining contents of the damaged tank.
Also the Alsfeld motorway maintenance department from the Vogelsberg district was involved and helped to seal the spilled diesel. The tractor-trailer was no longer drivable after the accident and had to be towed away. The feeder road to the A7 remained completely closed during the rescue work.
Officials estimated the damage at 50,000 euros. At around 6 a.m. the police announced that the junction was once again passable in both directions without any obstructions. The Petersberg police motorway station, 20 firefighters from Niederaula, a towing service and the Alsfeld motorway maintenance department were on duty.
Meanwhile A month earlier, previously unknown perpetrators in Herbstein in the Vogelsberg district siphoned off several hundred liters of diesel from construction machinery. The Lauterbach police are now looking for witnesses. According to the police, the perpetrators tampered with several machines at a construction site.
