Travel to Australia once? This doesn't have to remain a dream. The seventh continent is more affordable this year than you might think. Reporter Svenja tried it out: From Düsseldorf she goes to the other end of the world. After more than 20 hours of flight with a change, she arrives in Airlie Beach in the northeast of Australia. There she booked accommodation with a sea view ‒an apartment with space for almost an entire football team.

But why is the hardly affordable country of Australia suddenly so affordable? “At the moment the Australian dollar is so weak that the exchange rate with the euro really gives us the opportunity to get more performance for the same amount” explains travel agency owner Marc Plaetrich.

What you need to pay attention to when booking a long-distance trip
The airline is also important when booking a long-distance trip that is believed to be unaffordable. “Airlines that do not come from the European Union have to pay significantly fewer fees and taxes.There are taxes, for example due to the environment, from the European Union and also from Germany. These only affect airlines based in Europe. That means not European airlines from Morocco, from Egypt, from Turkey, from Tunisia, from the Emirates. They don’t have to pay these fees,” the travel expert continued.

In addition to Australia, other long-distance destinations with a sun guarantee are now closer and more affordable than ever . 14 nights in the Dominican Republic in a four-star all-inclusive hotel are currently available for a good 1,500 euros per person. The situation is similar in Zanzibar. There you get 13 nights in a four-star resort with all-inclusive catering for the same price. Important: If you are currently booking individually, you should pay attention to cancelable tariffs or travel cancellation insurance.
