Dennis Diekmeier talks about the end of his marriage to Dana

For a long time they were the model marriage in German football – Dennis and Dana Diekmeier. Until last week. On Monday (April 27), Dana suddenly announced on Instagram that they had separated after 16 years. Until now, Dennis had remained silent about the end of the marriage. Until this Friday (May 8th). And right at the beginning, the ex-professional made it clear in an interview with RTL.de regarding the rumor that he is in love again: “Yes, that’s true.” At the same time, he also wants to make it clear: “It comes across in the text that this is the reason for the separation. And that's just not true.”

Instead, he says calmly and without blame. There were “many points” that “were not optimal” and at some point were no longer correct. The difficult time surrounding daughter Delani put additional strain on the family, but was not the actual trigger. At some point, says Dennis, the point came where it was no longer possible. Both have decided that “there will be more peace at home again and we will still stick together.”

He further explains: “We decided together that I would go out and Dana would stay in the house with the children.” For him it was a given because it was “the best thing for the children,” he says.

In the time after moving out, his life slowly rearranged itself. “Of course you get to know other people during this phase,” he says. He met someone “who was very good to me.” And further: “I still live in the hotel, but of course I’m often with her,” he tells RTL. He doesn't want to say anything more about the new relationship.

For Delani, Dana and Dennis continue to stick together

Also because in the time after moving out the focus was entirely on his children – especially daughter Delani (15). Delani, who is passionate about horse riding, has been battling cancer since February 2025.

That's why he's not thinking about new or further plans, but rather emphasizes the solidarity in this area. “Delani’s therapies and the therapy phases are our focus.”

Next week, Dennis and Dana even want to support their daughter together at the Hamburg Derby.
