A double episode of “Murder on Sunday” is about the GDR border victims, people who lost their lives on the inner-German border. Part 1 was published on April 19th.
Fulda – Border victims are often associated with fleeing from East to West, but the reality on the inner German border was much more complex. In part 2 of “Murder on Sunday,” Sabrina Mehler and Daniela Petersen take a look at this complexity and talk about cases that don’t fit the usual pattern.
Crime podcast “Murder on Sunday” (42): GDR border victims, part 2
It's about people who moved from the West towards the GDR, about fatal encounters at the border and about a mysterious case in which the motive is still unclear today.
The focus is on the cases of Waldemar Estel, Bernhard Winter and Edmund Korschin, all of which show in different ways how contradictory the events at the border were. The question once again arises as to who bears responsibility: the individual on site or the political and military system behind it.
