More than 120 football enthusiasts trained together in Fulda for a special tournament: the inclusive “Fulda Cup”, which will be held on June 15th at the Fulda Stadium on Hesse Day.

Fulda – There was a hustle and bustle on the artificial turf field in the Johannisau sports park on Thursday (April 30th) as school students and other active participants refined their technique at twelve stations, as Antonius reports. Teachers from Fulda schools as well as the three professionals Keanu Kraft, Samuel Zapico and Nicola Arcanjo-Köhler from the SG Barockstadt Fulda-Lehnerz led the exercises – from dribbling through the course to coordinated passing sequences to classic goal-scoring training.

“It all started very small on meadows at Antonius,” recalled Christian Auth from the “Everyone is different – Inclusion Sports Fulda” club, which is celebrating its 20th anniversary this year. “It makes us proud that so many young people can come together here today and train so professionally.”

There are 13 schools from the Fulda district registered for the big tournament on Hessentag. New are the Lüdertalschule from Großenlüder and the Fuldaer Marienschule. Their sports teacher, Maria Berg, watched a game of catch and was enthusiastic: “You can see that sport breaks down inhibitions and creates appreciative togetherness. Our school does a lot of social projects – so taking part in the Fulda Cup is a great fit for us, and we hope for many inclusive encounters.”

For the first time, Caritas players also stepped up training, while school classes, residents and employees of Antonius are already part of the permanent staff. Another premiere: interludes with teams from Fulda University, Antonius and Caritas complete the tournament.

“We wanted to win 20 teams for the Fulda Cup for our club’s 20th birthday – and we succeeded,” said club member Isabell Vogler. The club organizes the “Fulda Cup”. “The idea of enabling encounters between people with and without disabilities through sport and establishing fair play is growing and thriving.”
