The self-learning center in Lauterbach offers a variety of learning opportunities. A new focus is intended to appeal to companies and support skilled workers.

Lauterbach – In the self-learning center of the adult education center (VHS) of the Vogelsberg district in Lauterbach, learners can decide for themselves whether they want to learn a new language, get their school leaving certificate or continue their professional training. “For over ten years, the self-study center has been a place that invites you to discover,” emphasizes the first district councilor and head of the VHS department, Patrick Krug.

“From primary school mathematics to accompanied learning for training and work, right up to the first steps on smartphones for seniors – the self-learning center offers a great range of offerings,” explains Patrick Krug during his visit. He was a guest at the “Alten Esel” with the Hessencampus steering group.

Place of discovery: Self-learning center in Lauterbach expands offerings

Since the beginning of the year, learning advisor Peter Seelbach has been available as a contact person for those interested in learning. During the meeting he presented his plans. Also present were Martin Rahner, deputy headmaster of the Vogelsberg School, and Lilli Pepler, project coordinator “Perfect Casting & Welcome Pilots” from the Vogelsberg District Crafts Association.

Andrea Ortstadt from the Vogelsberg district economic development agency and Monika Wüllner, coordinator for the Hessencampus at the adult education center, also took part in the event. These four members of the steering group discuss together current and planned projects on the Hessencampus.

After around 100 days of training, Peter Seelbach has big plans. The German major would like to expand the self-learning center in Lauterbach to include offers for companies: “I also want to establish offers for companies around the self-learning center. Because the center offers many opportunities,” says the learning advisor.

“For example, it can accompany further training, support international specialists in learning subject-specific language, help with exam preparation or be used as a learning location for trainees,” he explains. In room 16 of the “Old Donkey” there are PC workstations, learning materials, books and media available to create a concentrated learning atmosphere.

“What is particularly special is that groups are constantly forming that tackle new topics together and thus successfully develop new things,” reports Seelbach. He has also set up a speaking meeting that takes place on Thursdays from 2 p.m. to 3 p.m. “Those interested are invited to improve their language skills in a relaxed exchange on a predetermined topic,” explains Seelbach, who has many years of experience as a German teacher.
