A real spring revival on the labor market cannot be observed in April either. Unemployment in the Fulda district has fallen slightly, but less than usual.
Fulda – According to a report from the employment agency, the number of unemployed was 5,200 at the end of the month, 43 lower than in March. The unemployment rate remained at 4.0 percentwhich is 0.2 percentage points more than in April of the previous year, when the rate was 3.8 percent. It is still the lowest in Hesse, where unemployment averages 6.0 percent.
The number of unemployed people in Fulda is falling – but hardly noticeably
The weaker economy continues to have an impact, according to the statement. The number of unemployed increased by 256 people compared to April 2025. The number of short-term unemployed registered with the employment agency increased by 360 compared to the previous year (+19.1 percent) and is now at 2,248. The Fulda district job center, where people who have been unemployed for more than a year are registered, has, however, recorded a decrease in the number of unemployed by 104 people. There are currently 2952 people registered here.
Unemployment rose in almost all groups of people, particularly among younger people under 25 years of age (+10.9 percent) and among older people over 55 years of age (+12.0 percent). Another group of people who are currently more affected by unemployment than in the past are people with academic vocational qualifications. “Due to their level of education, many doors are open to these women and men, although the often extremely high level of specialization can pose a challenge in placement,” explains Karsten Hesse, Managing Director of the Bad Hersfeld-Fulda Employment Agency.
However, the chances of getting a new job are not bad, according to the employment agency. The employer service currently has 1,484 open positions in the Fulda region. That is 98 more than in the previous year. The chances are particularly good for trained specialists. There are also numerous vacant training positions reported from the summer onwards. Anyone interested in training can make an appointment at fulda.berufsberatung@arbeitsagentur.de or by phone at (0800) 4555500.
