
IHK General Manager Michael Konow was appointed to the University Council of Fulda University, succeeding Anika Wuttke.
Fulda – The Hessian Science Minister Timon Gremmels has appointed Michael Konow, General Manager of the Fulda Chamber of Commerce and Industry (IHK), to the advisory board of the Fulda University of Applied Sciences. The university Senate had already unanimously approved the appointment in February.

“Thanks to his work as general manager of the IHK Fulda, Michael Konow can excellently represent the perspective of the regional economy in the university council,” said university president Prof. Dr. Karim Khakzar. The head of the IHK is well connected in the region and has maintained active contacts with the university since taking office in Fulda. Konow has been involved as an elected board member in the university's support association for several years.
Konow himself described the Fulda University as an important location factor for the city and district. “Our Chamber of Commerce and Industry and I personally have been working well and trustingly with them for years. It is a great pleasure and honor to be involved in the further development of the university on the University Council,” he explained at the beginning of his term in office on the University Council.
The term of office of the IHK general manager on the University Council of Fulda University began on March 1, 2026 and lasts four years. He succeeds Anika Wuttke, managing director of the Fulda advertising agency creart and vice president of the IHK Fulda, who was a member of the committee from 2022 to 2026. University President Khakzar thanked her for the committed and trusting cooperation: “We were able to benefit greatly from your excellent expertise and detailed knowledge of the local economy.”
Konow brings expertise from business and sustainability
The University Council advises the university on its development, communicates the expectations of the professional world and promotes the use of scientific knowledge. The committee has the right of initiative on fundamental matters and is involved in the distribution of the university's resources. The long-term development planning of the university requires the approval of the university council. The council includes eight volunteers from politics, society, business, professional practice and science.
44-year-old Michael Konow has headed the IHK Fulda since 2020. The business graduate with a master's degree in sustainable development cooperation previously worked, among other things, as a development worker in West Africa and as a department head at the Hamburg Chamber of Commerce. He received several awards for his commitment in the areas of New Work and sustainability: the New Work Award in Hamburg in 2022 and the German Award for Sustainability Projects in 2023. Last year, the father of two was a finalist at the World Chambers Competition in Melbourne, the only global award for innovative projects from chambers of commerce and industry.
