How the ABC rule helps us lose weightOnce fat, always fat? This age is crucial
It's never too late to change your lifestyle.
Fighting the pounds is not easy. Especially when you're young, you often have a different focus. A healthy diet is then secondary. That's exactly what would be worth it in the long term. Our expert explains to us why this is so.
Fat and brain cells adapt to excess weight
Cola, chips, computer games – many young people love these things. And that can have an impact on their entire life. Nutritionist Dr. Thomas Kurscheid: “For example, you grow up to 17. That's good when people are a little overweight, at 15, at 16, and they grow out of being overweight.”

But if this hasn't happened by the age of 17, fat and brain cells have adapted to the excess weight. “They save it and then prefer to stay that way for the next few decades: unfortunately overweight.” When they are young, they still have the chance to orient themselves towards a healthy diet in the long term.
Reduce carbohydrates
Dr. But Kurscheid doesn't believe in radical diets either. No matter what age. A long-term habituation to a healthy lifestyle makes more sense, lasts longer and is much easier: “We should choose a diet at 15,16,17 so that you can maintain it for 50 years. That I simply eat fewer carbohydrates. Unless I'm a competitive athlete and need them.”
