Kilos of cannabis, cocaine and amphetamine: A 38-year-old who is on trial for drug trafficking has admitted the allegations. This was preceded by an agreement between the public prosecutor's office, the criminal chamber and the defense.
Fulda – Die The list of cases that Bad Hersfelder is accused of is longAccording to the public prosecutor's office, in the period between April 2020 and February 2021 alone, he is said to have traded a total of 29.42 kilograms of cannabis and 10.25 kilograms of narcotics, consisting of cocaine and amphetamine, on 19 occasions. The handover locations were often in Frankfurt and Bad Hersfeld, where the defendant lived until his arrest, but also in Gelnhausen and at the train station in Langenselbold.
After deal: Defendant admits drug trafficking charges
According to the indictment, nine other cases involved joint trafficking in narcotics. In one case, the 38-year-old is said to have even offered a Yugoslavian military pistol for sale to his chat partner named “Osama”. The public prosecutor's office relies mainly on chat messages that the defendant is said to have exchanged with buyers and sellers via encrypted criminal networks.
“We fully support the allegations,” said defense attorney Marc Donay on the second day of the trial. This was preceded by an agreement in which the ideas of those involved in the trial initially differed widely: the defense saw a total prison sentence of six to seven years as appropriate, taking into account a Würzburg judgment, the sentence for which the defendant is currently serving.
The prosecution's presentation, on the other hand, ranged from eight years and two months to nine years and two months. Both sides ultimately agreed on the criminal chamber's proposal. Accordingly, the total prison sentence for the defendant should be between seven and a half and eight and a half years if he confesses.
After an agreement, the defendant in Fulda helps decrypt codes
After this agreement, the defendant appeared cautiously cooperative: in constant coordination with his defense attorney, he helped the court to translate the many codes, synonyms and abbreviations used to communicate with each other via the encrypted cell phones: “Pepp” and “S,” for example, stood for amphetamine, “chocolate” for hashish, and “block” for a kilogram of a certain product.
The defendant was not always so willing to provide information. Not only chat messages but also photos of the handover locations were exchanged. “Should this be the handover location?” asked the presiding judge about the photo of a gas station. “I don't know. Maybe. Maybe he was just washing his car,” replied the 38-year-old.
In addition to drug trafficking, the defendant is also accused of offering a weapon for sale. There was also a corresponding passage in the chats about this. The defendant is said to have written about the photo of a hand holding a pistol into the camera: “This is a military weapon. You can use it to shoot through bulletproof vests.”
Police officer reports how suspicion fell on 38-year-old Hersfelder
One of the witnesses invited was a police officer who explained how the defendant was discovered during the investigation: “The analysis of the chats showed that the writer was male and came from Bad Hersfeld. In the chats, he mentioned, among other things, a flight to Spain. A query to the airlines pointed to a man from Bad Hersfeld. The investigation then focused on him.” In February 2023 the handcuffs clicked. The police found, among other things, two cell phones and almost 1,200 euros in cash on the defendant.
An unusually large amount of cash was also the subject of the financial investigation: According to this, the defendant had paid almost 40,000 euros in cash into his accounts within a few years. The origin of the money: unclear.
The trial continues on Tuesday, May 5th. Then a psychiatric report should be presented, the pleas made and the verdict announced.
