Goalkeeper Jonathan Klinsmann had to be taken to hospital after a serious collision with another player in the second Italian football league, Serie B. Now FC Cesena has announced the momentous diagnosis.

It was 0-2 when Jonathan Klinsmann, son of former national coach Jürgen Klinsmann, collided heavily with an opposing FC Palermo player. The goalkeeper suffered a laceration to his head and an injury to his neck, which is why he spent a night in hospital – initially for observation.

However, medical tests now reveal that Klinsmann's neck injury was a fracture of the first cervical vertebra. This is what his club announced.

Jonathan Klinsmann is out of the current season due to a fractured cervical vertebra. Instead, according to his club, the goalkeeper must undergo further examinations and specialist neurosurgical advice.
As SID reports, Marco De Marchi, Jonathan Klinsmann's manager, was also concerned. According to media sources, De Marchi stated: “The road to healing will be long.”
