Things will get creative for Hessentag 2026 in Fulda. Children and young people can show their city from unique perspectives. There will be a celebratory awards event.

Fulda – The Fulda Children's Academy, in collaboration with the city of Fulda, invites you on the occasion of Hesse day 2026 for a special creative competition. Under the motto “Foll Hessisch – My Hessentag, my city”, young people aged 6 to 17 are invited to artistically represent their personal impressions and ideas.

The competition aims to offer young people a platform to strengthen their connection to the city, the region and the Hessentag, as the city of Fulda announced in a press release. Whether through paintings, drawings or collages – individual perspectives on city events and local cultural participation are required.

Children can approach the topic by perhaps asking themselves these questions: “What does your favorite place in your city look like?”, “What makes you proud of your city or region?”, “What colors does your city have for you?”, “What moments would you like to capture or what should change about your city?”, “If your city were an animal, what would it be?”

“Children and young people often perceive their surroundings very differently than adults. These perspectives are valuable and enriching for our society,” says Silvia Brünnel, the managing director of the Children's Academy. “The creative competition promotes, among other things, the cultural and creative participation of our children and young people and also creates identity.”

“For this reason, we are very pleased that we can hold the creative competition as part of the Hessentag,” explains Silvia Brünnel. The initiative for the competition came from the city council and underlines the goal of strengthening and expanding the participation of young people in the long term.

“For Fulda, Hessentag is a festival of encounters, joy and diversity. I am particularly pleased that children and young people can use this competition to show how they see our city and this special event through their eyes,” says Mayor Dr. Wingenfeld (CDU) as patron of the competition.

“Your creativity makes visible what makes Fulda lively and unique – and that is exactly the spirit of Hessentag. I am looking forward to many colorful, surprising and inspiring works of art!” said the Mayor of Fulda. A high level of participation is expressly desired. The competition deliberately extends beyond the duration of Hessentag in order to enable as many young people as possible – including visitors to the city – to take part.

The submitted works will be recognized at a celebratory awards event and presented to the general public in an accompanying exhibition in the “KARL” department store. Further information on the conditions of participation is available online at www.kaf.de to find. The deadline for entries is July 31, 2026.

Meanwhile, the city of Fulda is giving away 80 fruit trees for the Hesse anniversary. Whoever answers questions about the climate correctly can win. Participation is possible until April 26th. The campaign is intended to celebrate the baroque city's 80th anniversary Hesse“ set an example for sustainability and the future.
