Around 550 new students were welcomed at the start of the summer semester at Fulda University. Around half of the first-year students come from abroad.

Fulda – Already In the winter semester, Fulda University welcomed a large number of international students. According to the university, around 40 percent of the approximately 8,700 students will come from abroad in the new summer semester.

Around 550 first-year students were welcomed on the first day of the lecture period on Monday (April 13) by university president Prof. Dr. Karim Khakzar was greeted in the well-filled cafeteria. Around half of them have foreign citizenship. This reflected the successes of the internationalization strategy that Fulda University has been pursuing for several years, as the university reports. Among other things, grow the number of study programs that are offered entirely in English.

“We are very pleased to welcome the new students to our university in Fulda. The positive trend continues this semester: Fulda University is becoming even more international,” emphasized university president Khakzar when welcoming the first semester students. The impending shortage of skilled workers can only be countered if the university opens up even more and arouses interest worldwide. According to statistics, most new international students come from Pakistan and Bangladesh, India and Ghana.

Also Prof. Dr. Jörg Kreiker, Vice President for Teaching, Studies and Digitalization, emphasized the stable development. “We will be able to maintain our total number of students this summer semester – that is a sign of the excellent, highly respected and continuous quality of our teaching at the university in Fulda,” he said. The demand for studying in Fulda remains high – among young people from the region, from all over Germany and the world, as Kreiker explained.

According to the university, 18 degree programs will start in the summer semester of 2026, including 13 master's and five bachelor's degree programs. The master’s program “International Management” is particularly in demand and received by far the most applications, especially from abroad.

Also very popular are the Bachelor's degree program “International Business & Management” in the Department of Economics, the Social Work degree programs (Bachelor) in the Department of Social Work and the Bachelor's degree program in Global Health in the Department of Health Sciences.

Since significantly fewer courses start in the summer semester than in the winter semester, the number of first semester students is usually lower. However, the almost 550 new students for the 2026 summer semester are a high number compared to previous years and are therefore “once again particularly pleasing,” emphasizes President Khakzar.
