Every year the rating agency Skytrax chooses the best airports in the world. There are hardly any surprises at the top this time: Asian airports traditionally dominate the ranking. However, one prominent name is missing because of the Iran war. And a German airport will be the best in Central Europe.
For many travelers, airports are just a necessary stopover on the way to their actual destination. But not all airports are the same. Some turnstiles have long since developed into their own attractions or impress with a particularly high level of service. The British management consultancy and rating agency Skytrax recently published a ranking of the best airports in the world based on passenger satisfaction. A German location is also represented in the top ten of the World Airport Awards 2026.
At the top, nothing has changed compared to the previous year: Changi Airport in Singapore was once again named the best airport in the world. Last year alone it handled around 70 million passengers. With its combination of modern technology, tropical garden landscapes and attractions like a giant indoor waterfall, the airport is a destination in itself.
Overall, the Asian region also dominates the ranking. Incheon International Airport in South Korea follows in second place. Tokyo is represented in the top five twice: Haneda comes third and Narita comes fifth. In between, Hong Kong International Airport is in fourth place.
However, one prominent name is missing: Hamad International Airport in Doha, which was in second place last year, no longer appears in the current ranking. The background is a withdrawal from international competitions in the wake of the ongoing conflicts in the Middle East.
Munich is once again the only German airport to make it into the top ten worldwide and, as in the previous year, is in ninth place. The Bavarian airport was also named the best in Central Europe at the World Airport Awards in March. In addition to Munich, three other European hubs are in the top ten: Paris Charles-de-Gaulle (six), Rome Fiumicino (seven) and Istanbul (eight). Vancouver International Airport lands on number ten.
The award is based on a comprehensive survey of travelers worldwide between August 2025 and February 2026, evaluating aspects such as customer service, shopping options, security, check-in and more. In total, more than 575 airports were put to the test.
