Showmaster Thomas Gottschalk is finally back in public after his cancer diagnosis. A new photo now gives his fans hope. The entertainer simply smiles away his worries.
Thomas Gottschalk's first public appearance in four months
It's been four months since Showmaster Thomas Gottschalk withdrew from the public for health reasons. The reason for this is his cancer, which he made public in December 2025. His fans should be all the more pleased about the latest snapshot of the “Wetten,dass..?” legend.
However, Gottschalk's snapshots cannot be found on his social media channels, but were published by the restaurant “Bräustüberl” on Tegernsee. In the pictures Gottschalk can be seen with his wife Karina and their daughter Melinda. The entertainer appears visibly relaxed in the photos and bravely smiles away his cancer worries.
“Yesterday we were able to welcome Thomas Gottschalk, the 'Wetten,dass..?' king, with his family. A visit that we were particularly happy about. So warm, so uncomplicated and exactly how an evening with us should be: together at the table, a good beer, real conversations,” writes the restaurant about the showmaster's visit.

Thomas Gottschalk: Health update after a chance meeting
Back in January, Gottschalk gave a rather random health update after his retirement. During a walk in Munich he happened to meet an RTL employee. Gottschalk was traveling with his wife Karina at the time and took the opportunity to make a short but hopeful statement. “I’m still alive, as you can see, and it will stay that way,” said the moderator. “I'm feeling better, I'm really happy. I'll still be with you.”

Gottschalk suffers from epithelioid angiosarcoma – a rare, malignant tumor that arises from the cells of the blood vessels. The Gottschalk had already received the diagnosis in the summer of 2025, but only made it public months later. Since then, he has undergone surgery and other procedures, as well as over 30 radiation treatments and drug therapy.
On December 6th, Gottschalk said goodbye to television with a final edition of “Because they don’t know what’s happening”. Together with Barbara Schöneberger (51) and Günther Jauch (69) he left the popular RTL format. He then announced on Instagram that he would focus exclusively on his recovery for the next six months.
