Fulda – The Evangelical Cross Church Fulda-Neuenberg celebrated the message of Jesus' resurrection with a happy family service on Easter Sunday. Pastor Stefan Bürger, children, youth and family advisor Valentina Riebel and children's service leader Cristina Großmann worked together to create a lively celebration that was particularly aimed at families and children, as the Kreuzkirche reports.
At the beginning, Valentina Riebel welcomed the congregation with the traditional Easter greeting “Jesus is risen – he is truly risen. Hallelujah!” Together, the congregation sang familiar Easter and children's songs such as “God's love is so wonderful” and “Hallelu, Hallelujah”, musically accompanied by Christopher Schnell. Movements to the songs caused enthusiasm, especially among the younger visitors. The resurrection of Jesus was also celebrated in Fulda Cathedral on Easter Sunday.
Evangelical Kreuzkirche celebrates family service at Easter
The center of the service in the Kreuzkirche was a sermon discussion that told the Easter story in a way that was child-friendly and at the same time profound. A colorful picture initially made it clear how bright and hopeful life with Jesus was for many people. The image was then covered with a dark cloth – as a symbol of the sadness and fear of the disciples after Jesus' death. In the second part, the focus was on the Easter message: the women at the grave, the light of the angel, the open grave and the promise “Jesus is risen” were taken up. Symbolically, the dark cross became “light” again when a colorfully decorated cross with tracing paper was shown.
Tina Großmann summarized the central message. She emphasized that the colors represent that the dark does not have the last word, this is how Easter is and this is how Jesus is. He transforms sadness into joy, fear into courage and the cross into a sign of hope. Even if everything seems dark, the colors are there and Jesus brings in the light. He is the light that leads to new and colorful life in the darkness. These thoughts shaped the entire service and made what Easter means tangible for children and adults alike: hope that is stronger than any darkness.

In the subsequent creative part, all children were able to make their own colored cross. Colorful works made of black paper and colorful tracing paper were created at several tables. Meanwhile, the adults who were not accompanying children sang other Easter songs such as “He is Risen” and “Early in the Morning as the Sun Rises.” After the craft time, the children presented their crosses in the sanctuary. In a short afterword, Pastor Bürger emphasized that the crosses had become as colorful as Easter itself. Even if life sometimes has dark sides, Easter shows that God makes life colorful – hopeful and full of light.
After the blessing, the togetherness around the Kreuzkirche continued. Easter bunnies and Easter eggs were waiting for the children, which they happily looked for on the grounds. The service could take place in YouTube stream can be celebrated live in the Kreuzkirche and can still be watched there in peace.
