Sagging chains and slipped load: The Bad Hersfeld motorway police stopped a heavy transport with inadequately secured earthmoving machinery on the A5.
Breitenbach am Herzberg – A heavy traffic patrol from the Bad Hersfeld motorway police pulled a truck out of traffic at the “Rimberg” rest area on Monday (March 30th). The police say his 26-tonne load was not properly secured.
The transporter had loaded a so-called spiked roller – a heavy earth-moving machine – onto its low-loader. The officers noticed that the lashing chains used to secure the vehicle were clearly sagging. The chain guide also had defects.

At the time of the inspection, the roller was no longer centered on the trailer, which indicated that it had slipped while driving. In addition, there was no adequate lateral securing of the loaded machine.
According to the police, there was a risk that the roller could fall off the vehicle if there were stronger cornering forces – for example during sudden evasive maneuvers or in tight curves. The officials ordered that the driver had to secure the load with additional securing devices and activate the anti-kink protection.
The heavy transport driver can now expect a fine in the high double-digit euro range and a point entry in Flensburg. The consequences of an accident with the unsecured 26-ton load could have been significantly more serious – for the driver himself and for other road users on the motorway, according to the police.
The fact that routine checks sometimes reveal much larger offenses was recently shown in Steinau: A traffic stop there led to an extensive drug discovery.
