On Saturday evening (March 28th) Franz Posch will host his successful show “Mei liabste Weis” live on ORF. But instead of an evening full of lively folk music, a breakdown live on TV overshadows the show: star trumpeter Toni Maier (77) clutches her heart and has to sit down.
Folk music star was about to sing a song
The Styrian folk musician Toni Maier is an absolute star in his home country of Austria. Everyone knows the trumpeter, who now caused a shock moment at prime time – seen live on ORF. The 77-year-old is about to sing the “Archduke Johann Yodel” when he clutches his heart. Colleagues support the popular musician, who himself briefly says: “My defibrillator has turned on.”

At around 9:30 p.m. – about a quarter of an hour after the incident – presenter Franz Posch (72) can deliver the first good news: Toni Maier is in the best of hands and is doing well again.

The regional director of ORF Tirol, Esther Mitterstieler, can give the all-clear on March 29th: the musician's condition is stable. After the collapse, the folk musician was taken to the Graz State Hospital.
The broadcaster writes about a photo with Franz Posch on the ORF Tirol Instagram account: “Star trumpeter Toni Maier is doing well and has now been released from the hospital.” The photo showing both men was taken on Sunday morning.
