On Sunday evening, Caren Miosga will address the topic of digital violence against women. As a guest: Collien Fernandes, who makes serious accusations against her ex-husband Christian Ulmen. His lawyer described the broadcast in advance as “blatantly contrary to the rule of law”.
On Sunday evening, the “Caren Miosga” panel will address a highly topical social problem: digital violence against women and the resulting gaps in protection in German law. The focus of the show is the actress and presenter Collien Fernandes (44), whose personal case has sparked a nationwide debate in recent days.
Collien Fernandes accuses her ex-husband Christian Ulmen (50) alleges, among other things, that they allegedly ran fake profiles in her name for years and distributed pornographic content that was apparently intended to give the impression that she could be seen on them. While the investigative authorities are examining the case, Fernandes is using her media platform to draw attention to the situation regarding sexualized deepfakes, identity fraud and legal gaps in protection.
Sharp criticism from Christian Ulmen's lawyer
Christian Schertz, Christian Ulmen's lawyer, sharply criticized the composition of the “Caren Miosga” guest list in the “Frankfurter Allgemeine Zeitung”. “The television court meets with the highest representative of the judiciary in Germany and the complainant,” says Schertz. In addition to Fernandes, Federal Justice Minister Stefanie Hubig (SPD) and Ronen Steinke, senior editor for legal policy at the “Süddeutsche Zeitung” are guests on the talk show on Sunday evening.
The lawyer considers the fact that this is happening in an investigation that has just been initiated against an accused to be “blatantly contrary to the rule of law”. Schertz also stated that he himself had offered to come on the show, but this was rejected because the group had already been decided.
NDR rejects the allegations
The NDR responsible for “Caren Miosga” firmly rejects these allegations against the “FAZ” and cites freedom of the press. The editorial team explained that the high-profile case only served as a starting point to illuminate structural deficiencies in prevention and criminal law.
A confrontation letter with detailed questions was sent to the other side in advance and the presumption of innocence for Mr. Ulmen would be expressly maintained in the broadcast. The primary aim of the program is to shed light on the socio-political problem of digital violence and the work of the judiciary, which is why Federal Justice Minister Stefanie Hubig (SPD) is also invited.
