The community center in Kämmerzell has been full of life for quite a while now following its renovation and expansion. Now the building has officially reopened.

Kämmerzell – The community center in Kämmerzell has officially reopened. To celebrate the day, architect Benjamin Kropp looked back on the history of the building: According to Kropp, the first concepts for the building planned as a primary school were drawn up in 1967. In 1979 it was converted into a community center.

Even before the Corona pandemic, there was finally a desire to expand the rehearsal room for the music club. “This idea ultimately developed further – the community center concept was rethought. City planning officer Daniel Schreiner supported us with foresight,” continued mayor Christian Ruppel.

A place for the future: Kämmerzell celebrates its new community center

Construction finally began in 2023, and the completely renovated community center and extension have been in operation since September and are being used extensively. “Almost all appointments are fully booked by the end of September,” reported the local mayor.

Ruppel also thanked the city council for providing the funds. The project cost 4.85 million euros, according to Fulda's mayor Dr. Heiko Wingenfeld (CDU) announced. However, the money is well spent because the community center is a sustainable community place. The building “passed the first test by clubs and citizens with flying colors,” as Wingenfeld praised it.

According to the city, the project required extensive planning as well as major renovation and new construction measures. The existing building on Maidornstrasse was completely renovated and received a two-story extension with a flat roof on the north side. For energy optimization, heat generation was converted from an outdated oil heating system to air heat pump technology.

The large hall received underfloor heating and the ventilation system and electrical engineering were brought up to date. The building shell was strengthened with a curtain facade with insulation as well as new windows and doors.

The city also says it has invested in fire protection and accessibility. For example, there is now a disabled-accessible toilet facility and an elevator. The extension includes, among other things, a divisible multifunctional room on the ground floor and a rehearsal room for clubs in the basement. The outdoor area was also completely redesigned.

Musicians think the community center has “mercilessly good” acoustics

“I have already received feedback from the musicians that the acoustics are incredibly good,” said the mayor happily and added: “The community center is really well done.”

There were also words of praise from city planning officer Daniel Schreiner (independent). “Despite price increases due to the war in Ukraine, the project remained within time and budget.” He also thanked the city council for the decision to invest in the local community. Schreiner thanked the companies involved for their accident-free and constructive work.

The Protestant pastor Heike Dietrich and the Catholic pastor Thorsten Kremer then gave the church blessing before the new community center was once again filled with life and community.

The renovation work in Kämmerzell was not just limited to the community center: recently RhönEnergie network company OsthessenNetz renewed the water main in the district. To do this, the drinking water supply had to be temporarily switched off on Tuesday (March 24th).
