More space, modern structures and an environment close to nature: the Caritas Association Fulda is setting an example for the future of youth welfare with a new building on Schulzenberg.
Maberzell – “After 50 years, it is time to start something new. Nine young people can move in here,” announced Dr. Markus Juch, CFO of the Caritas Association for the Diocese of Fulda. At the address Zum Schulzenberg 12 in Maberzell, a modern building is being built as a new building for a residential group. Around 1.46 million euros will flow into a residential building that will offer young people security, care and new perspectives.
Caritas Fulda is building a new house for inpatient youth welfare
The building is aimed at a future-oriented form of residential youth welfare and is intended to offer young people a safe and supportive environment. The new building offers around 380 square meters of living space. Nine single rooms, a shared living and dining room with kitchen, a staff room, an office and a homework room are planned.
In terms of energy and ecology, the building will meet today’s requirements. The aim is to offer young people an oasis of well-being and to accompany them on their way to an independent life.
The buildings of the former Caritas children's and youth village at Zum Schulzenberg 12 date from the late 1960s. There are currently inpatient residential groups in four of the nine houses; Some buildings have already been renovated and expanded in recent years. After around 50 years of use, a replacement is now being built for House 6, into which a residential group is to be relocated. In the long term, the association plans to gradually replace the remaining buildings over the next 10 to 15 years. The aim is to reduce the number of buildings and build larger houses without reducing the number of places.
Extensive outdoor areas are intended to create space for movement
The project also includes an extensive, natural outdoor area that is intended to create space for movement, play and exploration. The construction costs amount to around 1.465 million euros. “It's a fantastic property that's very close to nature. It's nice to grow up here when it's not possible at home,” emphasized Ansgar Erb, board member of the Caritas Association.
The association is, among other things, responsible for child and youth welfare institutions. The St. Elisabeth youth welfare association, based in Maberzell, offers a wide range of support for children, young people and families in need of help. Specialists such as educators and social workers accompany, advise and support those affected regardless of their religious denomination, gender, nationality or social status.
Mayor Dag Wehner (CDU) also welcomed the project: “It's a sign that things will continue. The youth welfare association remains committed.” In view of rising construction costs, such a new building is not a given. Construction is scheduled to begin at the end of March and will take around 15 months.
Meanwhile has Caritas Fulda recently handed over a vehicle as a gift to its partners in western Ukraine.
