Berlin high school graduates celebrate theme week – and things escalate
Open-air parties with hundreds of Berlin high school graduates during their theme weeks have escalated so much in several places in the capital that the police have intervened. There were also attacks on police officers, damaged police cars and several arrests, the officials said.

Up to 1,000 young people came together on a large meadow at the planetarium in Prenzlauer Berg on Friday evening. The police noticed noise, loud music and increasing littering from empty bottles and addressed the celebrating high school graduates. After bottles were thrown and firecrackers were set off, the police cleared the area.
Five teenagers or young adults were temporarily arrested on suspicion of breach of the peace and assault. The police investigated 15 cases of grievous bodily harm, property damage and pickpocketing.

In Schöneberg, around 600 young people gathered at the Rathaus Schöneberg subway station around 9 p.m., the police said. Here too, police officers were attacked. The police are investigating assault.
The newspaper BZ reported that the meetings were advertised over the Internet as a “graduation flash mob”. There have been daily celebrations in some green areas since last Monday, during which large piles of rubbish and broken pieces were left behind.
