Now it could soon affect holidaymakers.
The Easter holidays are just around the corner in all federal states except Hamburg. After the long, cold winter, many families are looking forward to a little break. But the announcement of a pilots' strike at the Lufthansa subsidiary Eurowings dampens the anticipation. And it's not just Eurowings customers that could stay on the ground.
Pilot strike at Eurowings threatens
The mood at Lufthansa is simmering. After two waves of strikes by pilots in which hundreds of flights were canceled, the flight attendants of the core company Lufthansa and the regional subsidiary Cityline are now preparing for industrial action. The cabin union UFO has called on its members to vote by Friday next week (March 27th). A very clear result is expected, UFO boss Joachim Vázquez explained to the dpa.

There is also a threat of strikes at the Lufthansa subsidiary Eurowings. In a strike vote, 94 percent of the participating members voted for industrial action, as the Cockpit Association union reports. According to the information, 82 percent of the eligible members took part. A specific time for a labor dispute was not initially given. Information should be provided “promptly” about what to do next. According to the ADAC, a strike is conceivable during the Easter holidays of all times, as many flights would then be canceled or take off or land late.

Eurowings passengers are threatened with trouble during the Easter holidays
According to its own information, Eurowings flies to 150 destinations in 40 countries. The focus is on European metropolises, sunny destinations in the Mediterranean and holiday destinations in North Africa. Families with school-age children often go to exactly these destinations during the Easter holidays. A pilots' strike could affect those of all people who can hardly afford vacation due to the economic situation in Germany.

Like its parent Lufthansa, the direct airline based in Cologne, which is used by many holidaymakers, is about the company pensions of the pilots. During the negotiations, the company rejected any increase in the volume of its contribution, the union criticizes.

There is also bad news regarding the strike for everyone who has chosen a holiday destination in Greece for the Easter holidays. The air traffic controllers will stop working there for 24 hours on April 9th, as the online portal ekathimerini reports. The association of public sector employees ADEDY called for the strike.
This Wednesday there will probably be no take-offs and landings of aircraft in Greece. There are exceptions for medical flights, search and rescue flights, humanitarian aid flights, military flights and emergencies.

Compensation for delays or flight cancellations
In the event of delays and flight cancellations, airlines are obliged to make so-called compensation payments to their customers in accordance with the EU Passenger Rights Regulation. Depending on the distance between the departure and destination airports, 250 to 600 euros can be charged. However, if there are exceptional circumstances that are beyond the airline's control, you do not have to pay.
