Fire in Vogelsberg: garage and two cars completely destroyed
Particularly explosive: petrol and gas bottles were stored in the garage. Several gas bottles had exploded before the fire department arrived, Alsfeld's city fire inspector Daniel Schäfer reported at the scene. “When we arrived, burning gas was still coming out,” he said.
The fire brigade then began a massive firefighting attack. Several teams used respiratory protection and carried out an external attack against the flames. A total of 24 emergency services with five vehicles were on site.

The scene of the fire is on Altenburg's Schlossberg, where fire-fighting water is usually in short supply. According to Schäfer, the water supply worked well this time. In addition, local knowledge among the firefighters helped to organize the operation quickly.
The situation was also favored by the fact that the building in question is free-standing. “It was good that the house is further away. It's always very nice that these garages are completely separate,” said Schäfer. This allowed the fire department to concentrate on fighting the fire without having to worry about it spreading to other buildings.

The current weather also prevented anything worse from happening. Behind the scene of the fire lies the castle park with lots of vegetation. “In midsummer there would have been a completely different problem here,” says Schäfer. Because of the wet weather However, the fire was limited to the garage.
Nobody was injured. However, the garage and two cars parked in it were completely destroyed.
In addition to the fire department, the rescue service and a patrol from the Alsfeld police were also on duty. Also on site were Alsfeld's mayor Stephan Paule (CDU) and district fire chief Björn Preuß von Brincken. Information about the cause of the fire and the extent of the damage is not yet available.
