The New Obertor is being built on the former Langer site in Schlüchtern. A modern center with shops, offices and apartments – completion is getting closer.
Schlüchtern – A construction site that is developing rapidly: The New Obertor is being built on the former Langer site in Schlüchtern. Around 30 interested people recently got an idea of the construction progress. During the tour, members of the municipal council, city councilors and employees of the city administration and urban development company (SEG) were impressed by the project and the speed with which it is being implemented.
New Obertor: Schlüchtern's city center will soon open
Sebastian Bien, project manager at the Fulda project developer Werner Projektentwicklung, led a tour of the construction site and presented the progress so far. The Werner Group is the owner and developer of the area.
“It was still the right decision not to simply leave this incredibly important area to the free market, but to acquire it ourselves and have it developed according to our conditions,” emphasized Mayor Matthias Möller. The town hall boss was proud of the speed of implementation: “In the end, it will take a good one and a half years from the building permit to completion. That's impressive.”
Completion of the work on the structure rented from the city of Schlüchtern is scheduled for May 2026. “We are still perfectly on schedule,” explained project manager Sebastian Bien. The final interior work is currently underway. The flooring has already been laid in the boarding house and the rooms are currently receiving their final interior paint. Work is also progressing well on the first and second floors.
In the future, the post office with longer opening hours and the tourist information center will open on the ground floor. Both are operated by Schlüchterner SEG. A baker, an optician, a textile retailer and other retail space are also planned. The public order office under the direction of Tanja Mittag, the residents' registration office under Franziska Hönig and the office for families, sports, culture and tourism under Kerstin Baier-Hildebrand will be located on the first and second floors.
Schlüchtern's new city quarter is slowly taking shape
A boarding house with ten modern rooms and a pantry kitchen will be built on the third floor. “Here too, SEG will be the operator. The variety of tasks that we have to handle with our team makes our work extremely varied,” explained SEG managing director Christof Weisenborn.
The entire project also includes 25 high-quality condominiums, which are intended to enable modern living in a central location. The area is intended to develop into a lively retail and service location with appeal beyond the city limits. The aim is to create a new, urban quarter in the heart of the city of Schlüchtern, explained Sebastian Bien.
The tour was over after almost three hours. Mayor Möller concluded: “Everyone is really looking forward to the completion and moving in here.”
It's not just in Schlüchtern that people are busy building: After ten months of renovation, an indoor swimming pool in Ronneburg in the Main-Kinzig district will soon reopen.
