The new incident occurred on Monday, March 2nd, according to the Southeast Hesse Police Headquarters. The woman received a call from an unknown number. A man explained to her that her son had caused a serious traffic accident that resulted in death and would now have to be in custody unless a high bail amount was posted immediately. As a result, a phone call lasting around an hour ensued in which, according to the police, the callers deliberately applied pressure.
Fake police officer steals gold and silver from senior citizen
According to her own statements, the injured party spoke to a supposed police officer and a supposed public prosecutor; both roles are said to have been assumed by the same person. She was also led to believe that she was on the phone with her son and his wife. They are said to have asked for help in a tearful voice. According to the police, the perpetrators had several accurate details about their family circumstances, which gave the fictional story additional credibility.
At the same time, the callers inquired about existing valuables and announced that they would send someone to pick them up. About an hour and a half after the initial contact, there was an arranged handover of silver and gold worth over 30,000 euros on Feldstrasse, which the pensioner handed over to a stranger in a blue cloth bag. The man then disappeared with the loot.
The person picking up the car is described as follows: around 60 years old, around 1.75 meters tall, normal to strong build, dark, short hair, wearing a blue sweater and blue jeans. According to the police, he spoke little standard German without an accent or dialect.
The criminal police in Hanau are now investigating fraud and are asking witnesses who observed suspicious people or vehicles on Feldstrasse during the crime to come forward. A search for the person who picked up the car has not yet yielded any clues.
Officials are again warning about the “accident and bail” scam. Anyone who receives a call should end the conversation immediately, contact relatives at known numbers and inform the police via the emergency number 110.
