Oliver Baumann at RTL: “Initially it was of course hard”
After the surprising appointment of world champion goalkeeper Manuel Neuer as Germany's number one for the World Cup, Oliver Baumann said he did not think about resigning. “It was hard at first, of course. I didn't think it was entirely cool,” he admitted in Chicago afterward 2:1 against co-hosts USA in the last test before the World Cup. “But it was immediately clear to me that I would be there for the team and go with them. I didn't even think about not coming here.”

It is also a World Cup for him and he wants to be there, said the 36-year-old on RTL. “I want to help the team. That's what I've always said, I said it back in the qualifiers, that's how it is now. I want to help the team, I want to make my contribution and that's what it's about. Full focus on myself and on the team, and everything else is left out.”
Nagelsmann: Neuer will play against Curaçao
Baumann was in the German goal for the entire World Cup qualification. The Hoffenheim player also played the last two test games before the World Cup against Finland (4-0) and now against the USA, as Neuer is still injured.
At the start of the World Cup on June 14th (7 p.m./ARD and Magenta Sport) against Curacao, the Bayern goalkeeper will probably make his comeback in the DFB goal after almost two years. “He will now start team training, that is the plan when we arrive in Winston-Salem – and then play against Curaçao,” said Nagelsmann, who brought the 2014 world champion back into the German squad just a few weeks ago.
