The primary school in Eiterfeld-Großentaft has been extensively modernized. The previous use as a nurses' house made the work special.
Eiterfeld – The Hessisches Kegelspiel elementary school in Großentaft celebrated a big celebration on Friday: At the open day, many visitors were convinced of how well the renovation of the historic building was successful. The Fulda district invested 385,000 euros in this. “Everything turned out wonderfully. I'm totally thrilled,” said school principal Gabriele Schramm.
In the Eiterfeld district at the foot of the Kleinberg, the school building was inaugurated, which had been made ready for the coming school year: The district's building management has the small elementary school with a spacious childcare area equipped for the all-day concept.

“In this process, the entire structure was basically optimized,” describes Bernhard Dendel from building management, who oversaw the construction project. The administration and support area on the upper floor was clearly structured. Three care rooms, a serving kitchen with an attached cafeteria and toilet were created there. The four classrooms for the current 36 students are located on the ground floor. A craft room was set up in the basement.

The construction project, for which companies from the district were commissioned, was special: the half-timbered construction of the school building, formerly a nurses' house, placed additional demands on fire protection.
“The measure was implemented in close cooperation with the school management; the school community was involved. For example, renovation work was actively supported,” recalls Dendel and adds: “A large part of the work was carried out during the holidays, but work on the project also took place during school hours. The school management was very cooperative and understanding.”

The preparatory planning for all-day care began at the end of 2023, construction began during the summer holidays of 2024, and the measure has been completed since late summer 2025. The construction costs amounted to 335,000 euros. The district invested 50,000 euros for the initial furnishing of the rooms.
As part of the official inauguration, the school was also certified twice: The Hessisches Kegelspiel primary school received the certificates “Prima Canta – Every Child His Voice” and “Biosphere School”.
