Cheap dupe at the discounterBig hype about the green table group: Why everyone wants this Aldi offer

From Aldi to Ebay in no time.
On Tuesday (May 26th), design fans rushed to Aldi Süd. The reason was a green metal dining table group. More precisely, a dupe: This is a cheap product that closely resembles an expensive branded product. The furniture was gone within a few hours – but Ebay classifieds are now full of searches and offers. But the prices make your eyes pop out of your head, because while Aldi Süd was charging 129 euros, classified ad sellers want up to 300 euros for the metal set.
Dupe is a bargain compared to the original from HAY
The fact that there could be a run on the table and the benches is not really surprising. Because it started on Instagram two weeks beforehand. Design influencers diligently promoted the three pieces of furniture for the garden or balcony. A little hype was triggered in numerous posts in Germany, but also in Austria. After all, this is a dupe, a kind of duplicate of an expensive brand model. In this case, the products from the Palissade series by the Danish furniture designer HAY could have been the model. Depending on the composition, the original can cost up to 2000 euros.

In some branches around Cologne there was not a single copy left 30 minutes after the store opened. But there are many offers and requests on Ebay classifieds, some with sums of up to 300 euros.
But what does Aldi Süd say about the hype? When asked by RTL, Aldi Süd did not disclose how many copies were sold. Will there be more sets like this in the future? And if so: in which colors? We probably won't find out. The discounter remains silent: “Please understand that for competitive reasons, Aldi SÜD (…) generally does not comment on specific sales figures or range planning at item level.”
