Medical emergency as cause of accident
According to investigators, the driver who drove her car into a group of students in Dinslaken on Wednesday morning had a 16-second cardiac arrest. According to dpa information from police circles, this was the result of the evaluation of a so-called event recorder that the woman had implanted. The police assume that cardiac arrest was the cause of the accident. Bild had previously reported.
Reading tip: The driver who died (47) had already had a car accident after fainting at the wheel
According to the public prosecutor's office, the woman had already caused an accident in May last year because of a sudden fainting attack at the wheel. The device was then inserted into her. An event recorder continuously monitors heart activity. The Duisburg public prosecutor did not want to provide any information on the question of cardiac arrest on Friday.
The driver is seriously injured in an accident in Dinslaken
In the morning, shortly before school started, the 47-year-old drove her car into a group of three twelve-year-old boys – students from Dinslaken's Otto-Hahn-Gymnasium who were on their way to class on bicycles. Two of the twelve-year-olds were so seriously injured that they later died in hospital. The third only suffered minor injuries and did not require hospital treatment.
According to the public prosecutor's office, the driver is being investigated for negligent homicide. According to the responsible driving license office in the Wesel district, the 47-year-old was allowed to drive a car despite the first accident. “After a detailed and final evaluation of the necessary medical documents, there was no legal basis for revoking the driver’s license or imposing conditions,” said a spokeswoman.
