While many outdoor pools were overcrowded at Pentecost, the final preparations for the start of the season are underway in Poppenhausen, Gersfeld and Landenhausen.
Region – While there were already thousands of visitors in many outdoor pools in the region at Pentecost (see information box), the season is only now beginning in parts of the Rhön. The final preparations are underway in Poppenhausen, Dalherda and Landenhausen.
Bathers were not able to spend the long weekend in the outdoor pool everywhere. In Poppenhausen The outdoor pool remained closed, which caused surprise among some citizens. However, that is expected to change later this week. However, an exact date had not yet been set on Tuesday.
After the Whitsun heat: These outdoor pools in East Hesse are only opening now
“It was never communicated that we would open over Pentecost,” says Mayor Alexandra Ballweg (independent). Until Saturday there was still scaffolding at the outdoor pool because a new gym and dance room had been built there. It was clear from the start that the pool could only open once the scaffolding was removed.
“Technically, the bathroom is ready to go,” explains Ballweg. At the moment it's just a matter of coordinating the volunteers who take care of the operation. “Unfortunately there was no other way to solve it organizationally,” the mayor makes clear with a view to the past weekend and adds: “We still have the Guckaisee.”
Rush of visitors at Pentecost
Rosenbad Fulda: A total of 9,500 guests on the Whitsun weekend, including 3,500 visitors on Whitsun Monday. According to RhönEnergie, days with more than 3,000 guests are rare.

Hünfeld outdoor swimming pool: Around 1200 guests on Sunday and around 1500 on Monday. The city is talking about extraordinary numbers for May.
Schlitzerland Burgenbad: 1400 visitors on Sunday and 1600 on Monday. In midsummer, 2,000 guests are possible, but the numbers are high for May.
The outdoor swimming pool is also currently closed Dalherda. But the opening is apparently imminent there too. At the beginning of May, the outdoor pool's support association raised the alarm because a tenant for the kiosk was missingwho also organizes the sale of tickets. However, an operator has now been found.
“We are close to concluding the contract,” said Ingo Sommers, chairman of the outdoor pool’s support association. Gersfeld's mayor Dr. Steffen Korell (CDU) confirms: “I signed the contract.” The contract was then sent to the new operator – a family from the region who already had experience in the catering sector.
Kiosk tenant found for Dalherda outdoor pool – cleaners wanted
The plan is currently to open the pool on June 6th. However, smaller work still needs to be completed beforehand. In the past few months, among other things, a pergola was built and equipped with a photovoltaic system. The electricity generated there will supply the circulation pumps in the future.
However, Sommers emphasizes that cleaners are still needed. The work should take place either before opening at 10 a.m. or after 7 p.m. and last around two hours per day. The position is offered on a mini-job basis. Anyone who would like to work in Hesse's highest outdoor swimming pool can contact the city of Gersfeld on (06656) 8814.
In the Wartenberg district Landenhausen The outdoor pool season is also just around the corner. The local outdoor pool opens there on Saturday (May 30th) at 10 a.m.
