Fulda Marathon on September 6th with a new route

The Fulda Marathon has been a fixture in the region's sporting calendar for three decades – and in its 31st edition will once again appeal to runners of all ages and abilities from near and far. Mayor Dr. Heiko Wingenfeld, who once again acts as patron.

The city leader also wants to set a good example in terms of sport: he announced that he would complete the 11-kilometer route this year – of course in the new official marathon shirt, which this time was designed in mint color.

The main focus of the press conference was the revised route. The organizers have evaluated the feedback from previous years and consciously decided to make the route clearer and less complicated. The sections through the Fulda meadow and the castle garden were particularly popular with the participants. These areas therefore remain an integral part of the run.

As usual, the runs start and end in the stadium in the city of Fulda. There are three distances to choose from this year: five kilometers, eleven kilometers and the half marathon. The half marathon runners complete the circuit twice.

Fulda Marathon with an expanded security concept

The main aim of adapting the route is to avoid intersections and possible meeting points for runners in order to further increase safety on the route. The security concept was expanded to match this. Those responsible emphasized that the safety of the athletes was the top priority. Spectators, families and coaches are therefore only allowed to stay in the stands. The interior of the stadium is reserved for the runners and the organizing team. In addition, each running group is accompanied by a cyclist who knows the route and helps coordinate the run.

The half marathon starts at 9:30 a.m. and the 11-kilometer runners start at 9:50 a.m. The five kilometers start at 10:05 a.m. In the afternoon, the route belongs to the youngsters: the primary schools start at 2 p.m. and the lower secondary school races start at 3 p.m. As was the case last year, the starting documents are handed out the evening before.

The event is once again supported by numerous regional sponsors. The main sponsor continues to be Autohaus Scheller, which has been supporting the Fulda Marathon for several years. Registration is already online at fulda-marathon.de possible.
