The public order administration in Schlüchtern is moving. Citizens should submit passport applications early. Otherwise, delays could jeopardize vacation plans.
Schlüchtern – In the near future, various departments of the city administration, including the public order administration, will be moving to the New Obertor in Schlüchtern. To avoid delays in processing applications, especially for vacation trips, passport applications should be submitted early.
“Passports and identity cards are created by the Bundesdruckerei in Berlin and take between three days and six weeks,” said the city of Schlüchtern in a press release about the passport applications sent by the communications agency Bensing & Reith.
Why you should apply for your pass early in Schlüchtern
In addition to the public order administration, the department for family, culture and tourism is also moving to the Neue Obertor (Obertorstraße 41). Both departments will remain closed on Friday (June 5) and Monday (June 8) during the move. They will be open again from Tuesday (June 9th).
“We are six weeks before the summer holidays; especially when it comes to passports for a trip, it is better to apply for them early,” says Tanja Mittag, head of public order administration. “Otherwise, express fees could apply or the creation might not even work on time.”
City and post office opening times
The public order administration and the area for family, culture and tourism will be open in the Neuer Obertor from June 9th, Monday to Friday from 8:30 a.m. to 12 p.m. and also on Thursdays from 2 p.m. to 6 p.m. At the same time, the tourist information office will also be open from June 3rd. From May 21st, the post office will be open Monday to Friday from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. and Saturday from 9 a.m. to 12 p.m.
The processing time for ID cards is two to four weeks, four to six weeks for passports, and around three to five working days for express processing. The public order administration includes the areas of residents' registration office, escape and asylum, cemetery administration, trade office, fire protection, social services, city police and road traffic.
The Department of Family, Culture and Tourism covers the areas of child day care, seniors and youth, culture and tourism, markets and festivals as well as associations and volunteer work. The post office, which will be open from May 21st, and the tourist information office, which will open from June 3rd, will also be moving to the new building on Obertorstrasse.
Hotel Neue Mitte opens in June
In June, the Hotel Neue Mitte will open on the third floor of the New Upper Gate. All three areas are managed by the Schlüchtern urban development company SEG. A bakery, a clothing store and an optician will also complement the Neue Obertor.
New living space will also be created on the former Langer site. “After the move, we will be able to offer our services in a more modern and citizen-friendly manner,” says Schlüchtern’s mayor Matthias Möller (independent). “I’m looking forward to it starting at the Neuer Obertor shortly.”
