After his partner's whirlpool tragedy Celebrity manager Alain Midzic is finding his way back to life for his daughter
“And I was on the phone when that happened.”
Six months ago, celebrity manager Alain Midzic lost his long-time partner in a whirlpool accident. Despite the loss, he tries to return to everyday life because there is someone worth looking forward to.
Alain Midzic experiences the worst moment on the phone
“Challenging to positive. That's how I would describe the situation,” says Alain Midzic, whom we meet at the Cannes Film Festival. For the first time he speaks openly in front of a camera about the death of his partner Eva-Maria. On November 4, 2025, his partner of 47 years died after a circulatory collapse in the in-house whirlpool.
After a trip abroad, Alain tried to reach his partner by phone. But she doesn't answer. That's why he calls his son from a previous relationship. “He was upstairs with himself and then went downstairs and then he found her. And I was on the phone when that happened,” remembers the 57-year-old. But any help comes too late. For the manager of stars like Sophia Thomalla, Verona Pooth, Charlotte Würdig and Philipp Plein, a world is collapsing.

He then blocks everything from outside help. Verona Pooth wanted to travel to him straight away. “Verona was already on the way to the airport and I stopped them all,” he says. “And I said: No, I'm not opening up to anyone anymore. I need some peace and quiet.” Only after ten days does he open up to family and friends again. He's doing therapy.
His little daughter gives him strength
Alain and Eva-Maria were a couple for 15 years. They have a daughter together. At that time, Alain wanted to do everything he could to ensure that the six-year-old didn't notice anything. “The little one is autistic. She has a very bright mind and can get a lot done. She only said to me once: Mom, sick, gone. Then she pointed upwards like that.” A sentence that still gets under your skin today.
In Cannes, Alain Midzic accompanies designer Philipp Plein to a major film festival event. The job brings him routine. But above all it is Kimi-Marie, nicknamed Cat, who gives him support. “Every time I see my cat like that, I know the whole thing has a meaning,” says Alain Midzic.
