The Heubach regional synagogue invites you to an annual program under the motto “One place, a lot of culture”. Highlights include the “Celebration Day” on May 31st and a panel discussion with Bodo Ramelow on July 2nd.

According to the association, the new event flyer is now available in numerous town halls, tourist information centers and other cultural locations.

Heubach celebrates 20 years of culture in the former synagogue

This is the reason for the extensive annual program 20th anniversary of the former synagogue as a cultural and meeting place. As the support association announces, this anniversary will be celebrated with a “celebration day” on Sunday, May 31st. The event begins at 1:30 p.m. with a service in the Heubacher Church with Pastor Johanna Rau, initiator of the project and honorary chairwoman of the association.

Afterwards, former bishop Martin Hein (Evangelical Church of Kurhessen-Waldeck) will give the celebratory speech in the restored synagogue. Guided tours, music as well as coffee and cake are also offered there – with many opportunities to “look back and forward”.

Just one week later, on Sunday, June 7th, the support association is offering an excursion to Gersfeld. Speaker Jan Guthermuth introduces the participants to the Jewish history of the Rhönstadt and, according to the association, explains the traces that are still visible today.

One of the highlights of the program is a panel discussion with Bodo Ramelow (Die Linke), Vice President of the German Bundestag and former Prime Minister of Thuringia. On Thursday, July 2nd, at 7 p.m., he will discuss the question “Culture of remembrance and democracy under pressure?” together with Hartmut Zimmermann, chairman of the support association.

In order to be able to select the appropriate venue depending on the audience's interests, the association asks interested visitors to register in advance by email info@heubach.de.

The history of the displaced people also comes into focus. The music continues on Saturday, September 19th: The duo “Zweiklang” with Daniela Röll-Diegelmann and Clemens Lutz presents hits and chansons from the 1920s.

Literature plays a central role in autumn. As the association reports, Heubach is once again part of the Hesse-wide cultural campaign “Leseland Hessen”. The German-Israeli author Nirit Sommerfeld (Chemnitz) will read from her novel “Bedouin Milk” on Saturday, October 24th. “Leseland Hessen” is supported by the Sparkassen-Stiftung, hr2 kultur and the Hessian Ministry of Science, Research, Art and Culture.

On Saturday, November 14th, radio journalist Hermann Diel will dedicate himself to the life and work of Bob Dylan under the title “Diel reads Dylan”. Accompanied by George Wagner (guitar) and Klaus Schenk (vibraphone), he presents texts by and about the Nobel Prize winner and also addresses his Jewish roots.

The annual program ends with an afternoon of Jewish fairy tales on the 2nd of Advent, Sunday, December 6th. The event is organized by the narrator Annette Martin (Kothen) and the guitarist Carlo Hilsdorf (Bad Brückenau).
