The Eichhof Hospital and argo med are entering into a cooperation. The aim is to strengthen oncological care in rural areas.
Lauterbach – Medical care for cancer patients in rural areas is facing growing challenges. The Lauterbach oncology site is now to be strengthened with a new cooperation between the Eichhof Hospital and the argo med medical care center, as the Eichhof Hospital reports.
New cooperation strengthens oncological care in Vogelsberg
At the center of the collaboration is Susanne Simon-Becker, a specialist in internal medicine with a focus on hematology and internal oncology. The doctor, who has been working at the MVZ Eichhof since 2021 and has enjoyed the trust of the people in Vogelsberg for more than 20 years, will in future be a member of the argo med oncology team at the Eichhof Hospital in Lauterbach. “The close connection to our patients is central to us,” emphasizes the doctor who specializes in cancer of the gastrointestinal tract and will continue to work in Lauterbach. In addition to her weekly oncology consultation, the respected doctor also looks after patients in the internal medicine and visceral medicine and gastroenterology departments at Eichhof Hospital.
The cooperation creates a network of oncology practices in Marburg, Lauterbach and Alsfeld, explain the argo med founders Dr. Christoph Mann and PD Dr. Jörg Hoffmann together with Dr. Jorge Riera, who also works for argo med in Vogelsberg. For patients, this means: high-quality care in the region – supplemented by a connection to the scientific possibilities of university hospitals and maximum care providers.
“Oncology is becoming increasingly complex and cost-intensive – this is difficult for smaller locations to manage alone,” explains Dr. man's reasons for working together. At the same time, not every treatment at large tumor centers is necessary. Services such as oral chemotherapy, ultrasound, blood tests and consultation hours would continue to be offered in Lauterbach. However, more complex infusion chemotherapy treatments were carried out at other locations within the argo med network.
Providing close-to-home care for cancer patients
For Thomas Faust, board member of the Eichhof Foundation Lauterbach, the cooperation is the right step: “In this way, we can continue to care for patients close to home and at the same time secure oncological expertise for the Eichhof Hospital.” All care offerings – from the oncology consultation to the location at the MVZ Eichhof to the established cooperation with the hospital – were retained.
Looking to the future, Dr. man optimistic. Many young doctors today are looking for a working environment that combines professional development, modern treatment standards and good personal working conditions. “This is exactly where we see the strength of our regional MVZ structure: they enable sophisticated oncological medicine in a collegial network – close to the patients.”
The aim of the cooperation is to keep the oncological therapy options in Lauterbach up to date with the current state of science through consistent further training, digitalization and participation in studies. Susanne Simon-Becker concludes by making it clear: “Of course, I will remain present with my oncology consultation in Lauterbach.”
Just recently The mayor of Schlitz, Heiko Siemon (CDU), was also appointed to the board of trustees of the Eichhof Foundation Lauterbach.
