The Princely Garden Festival takes place from Thursday to Sunday at Fasanerie Castle. This weekend, 160 exhibitors will show their products relating to gardening, living, art and cuisine.
Fasanerie – In the farm yard of Fasanerie Castle, five gardeners set up their plants, while bark mulch is diligently shoveled next to the paths to the paddocks. A number of exhibitors are equipping their pavilions in the orchard, and garden decorations made of metal, wood or ceramic can already be seen in some corners.
A few meters away, the floristry students from the Eduard Stieler School are setting up their floral decorations at the selfie point. “The flowers alone are worth 4,000 euros,” says teacher Iris Stake. After 20 years she is there with her protégés for the last time; The vocational school course will be offered in Kassel and Hanau in the future. Almost right next door in the Hofgarten Madleen Herbold her show garden “Ultraviolet” with which she won this year's show garden competition.
From show gardens to art: the highlights of the garden festival
This year's Princely Garden Festival opens its doors on Thursday at 10 a.m., by which time all stands must be set up. In addition to the exhibitors themselves, there are currently around 20 craftsmen and helpers working on the site. Gardeners and artisans, restaurateurs and retailers present themselves over four days. “This year we have 20 percent new exhibitors. The rest are regular visitors who we know that many guests come to the Princely Garden Festival specifically to see,” reports marketing manager Svenja Krah. The organizers are also satisfied that many exhibitors come from the region – especially the restaurateurs.
This year the garden festival's motto is “Gardens full of life”. The aim is to focus on species diversity and biodiversity. “The exhibitors who support our special topic are marked in the program booklet with a bee symbol. They are marked on the site with a bee course sign,” explains Krah. Herbold's show garden also has such a sign. The award winner designed her beds in a honeycomb shape with different soils. While the photos, which use ultraviolet light to illustrate the view of insects on the plant world, are still being hung, a large mirror can already be seen in the center. This is intended to give an impression of an insect's field of vision.
Opening times and entrance fees
Under the special theme “Gardens full of life”, around 160 exhibitors with international renown will be offering beautiful and exquisite things to do with the garden over the Ascension weekend from Thursday, May 14th to Sunday, May 17th – exceptional plants, exclusive furniture, fine handicrafts and much more. There will also be a supporting program with lectures, music and cabaret. The garden festival is open from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m.
The day ticket costs 18 euros, the reduced day ticket costs 16 euros and the season ticket costs 38 euros. Children under 14 have free entry. Pupils and students up to 26 years of age and severely disabled people receive tickets at a reduced price upon presentation of a valid ID.
The landscape architecture student is not the only one who has gotten creative with her display object. Elementary schools in the Fulda district have also dedicated themselves to the topic of insects. Your works will be assessed by a jury during the garden festival. They can be seen right next to the children's play area. Krah emphasizes that there should also be something on offer for the youngest guests at Fasanerie Castle. There will be, among other things, a scavenger hunt.
Culturally, there is a supporting program on the site with various music groups. And of course this year, too, there are a number of lectures from exhibitors and experts – for example from BUND and the Fulda district – on the agenda.
