This is the before and after effect Facelift or beauty rip-off? The facial lymphatic drainage boom under scrutiny
Defined contours, a fresher complexion and smoother skin.
More and more celebrities are relying on lymphatic drainage for their faces and are having it treated regularly. But what is really behind the trend? Is facial lymphatic drainage a cheaper facelift or just a beauty rip-off? RTL put the hype to the test together with tester Stefanie Kahl. You can find out whether the massage really has the promised effect in the video above.
Lymphatic drainage is supposed to rejuvenate the face – what’s behind the massage?
The Lymphatic drainage is a special form of massage that stimulates the body's own lymphatic drainage. Accumulated fluids and waste materials are transported away from the tissue via the lymphatic channels and nodes.
When applied to the face, the massage helps to “get the whole thing going again and then work out the contours again and simply make the face look more defined,” as founder of the self-care chain “Soulhouse” Rosa Tapper explains in an interview with RTL. “This also creates this fresh effect and the effect that you look somewhat rejuvenated“explains the expert.

Lymphatic drainage for the face in the test – process and costs
Tester Stefanie Kahl has high expectations of lymphatic drainage – especially since she has been struggling with swelling in her eyes since an unsuccessful lower eyelid lift. She hopes for a positive effect: “I’m excited.”

We visit a studio in Düsseldorf together. Cost for the facial treatment: 89 euros. In return, you get a one-hour massage with a special oil – but not for relaxation.
“So, it's not like an 'Oh, I'm going to fall asleep' massage,” Stefanie admits during the lymphatic drainage. Instead, there is “a lot of pressure behind it”. Will this intensive processing produce the desired result?

Before and after result: face appears “a little firmer”
“I have the feeling that it looks a little tighter,” explains tester Stefanie tentatively as she takes a critical look in the mirror. She seems to notice a difference, particularly in the eye on which she had previous surgery. “I think it just looks a bit more padded” is their verdict.
You can see how Stefanie's face has changed as a result of the lymphatic drainage, including the before and after pictures, in the video above.

Unfortunately, the visible results of lymphatic drainage are not permanent. The effect should last around two days.
Our conclusion: For anyone who wants a short-term face glow, lymphatic drainage for the face is just the thing. However, if you are looking for a permanent anti-aging solution, you will be disappointed by the one-hour massage.
