Suddenly you can't breathe anymore!
A tragic kitchen accident is causing great concern in Australia: a 14-month-old child had to be put into an artificial coma after inhaling a special cake decorating powder. The boy is fighting for his life in the hospital.
Little Dusty's mother was preparing an elaborately decorated birthday cake for a friend's child when the accident occurred. During the preparations, the 14-month-old boy was in the same room and apparently reached for a kitchen drawer without being noticed.
What exactly happened next is unclear. But within a few seconds the child was said to have inhaled the fine “gold dust powder” – a decorating agent used on cake surfaces.

Lungs blocked – emergency operation in hospital
According to family reports, the boy became unresponsive immediately after inhaling. Paramedics immediately took him to a hospital in Brisbane.
There, doctors discovered that the powder had combined with moisture to form a paste-like substance that was blocking his airways. The boy required emergency surgery to clear his lungs and was then placed in an induced coma.

Critical condition, but initial small progress
In the days following the accident, his condition fluctuated. In the meantime, it was reported that the child had a fever and was still dependent on ventilation. However, doctors began cautiously to reduce the medication as reactions began to appear.
The family now hopes that the boy will soon be able to breathe on his own again and regain consciousness.

Great sympathy and fundraiser
Family friends have launched a fundraising campaign to cover medical and accommodation costs during the hospital stay. Tens of thousands of dollars have already been raised.
The parents are also being placed in a facility for families of seriously ill children while their son is being treated. The little boy's mother wants to make the incident public to warn other parents. The decorative powder used was basically intended for food, but was apparently only intended for external decoration.
After the incident, the product was removed from sale, according to the family.
