There was a large-scale power outage on Monday evening in parts of the Hünfeld city center and in the Mackenzell district.
Hünfeld – According to the Hünfeld public utility company, the power outage occurred on Monday (May 4th) at around 9:10 p.m. Numerous households were affected until late in the evening.
Households in Hünfeld and Mackenzell without electricity – that’s the reason
According to the municipal utilities, the trigger was a technical error in the transformer station on Weißenborner Straße in Mackenzell. This led to an overvoltage in the network, which resulted in cable damage in the Hünfeld city center area. This defective line caused darkness in the eastern part of the city – including above Molzbacher Berg and in the Tiergartenviertel, as the municipal utilities report.
The supply was gradually restored: the first parts of the affected areas of the city center were back online at around 9:40 p.m. According to the municipal utilities, around 10:30 p.m. the remaining households in the city center were supplied with electricity again. By 11:30 p.m., the houses in the Weißenborner Strasse area in Mackenzell finally had energy again.
Hünfeld municipal utilities have located the location of the cable damage
The municipal utilities are drawing conclusions from the incident. The switchgear in the transformer station on Weißenborner Straße will now be completely replaced, says Stadtwerke managing director Manuel Gollbach. In addition, on Tuesday (May 5th) the exact location of the cable damage was located on Kreuzbergstrasse in Hünfeld using a cable measuring van. At this point the road needs to be dug up to repair the damaged line.
Despite the necessary construction work, Gollbach sees security of supply guaranteed: “The power supply is secured during the work,” emphasizes the municipal utilities managing director.
At the beginning of the year there was one Short circuit for a power outage in Schlüchtern taken care of.
