Heinz Hoenig spent 143 days in the intensive care unit, at times he was closer to death than to life. Now the acting star is clawing his way back little by little – with progress that was not thought possible.

Heinz Hoenig (74) has gone through a time in which many things were in jeopardy. The relief is even greater now: his values ​​are currently so stable that an originally planned heart operation was canceled.

As Bild.de reports, even his doctors are now talking about a miracle. The actor himself also looks back on the hardest months of his life. “The situation was not very hopeful,” he tells Bild. Today he can breathe a cautious sigh of relief: “I’m almost my old self again.”

His wife Annika Kärsten-Hoenig (41) explains the current status as follows: “At the moment Heinz is stable, he has recovered well. His blood values ​​are also good. That's why an operation is not an issue at the moment, thank God.”

Heinz Hoenig's clinical drama begins in spring 2024

About two years ago, the actor was hospitalized with shortness of breath and a gastrointestinal infection. There, doctors discovered that a bacterial infection had attacked his aorta and a heart stent that was inserted in 2012. They also discovered a life-threatening hole in his esophagus.

Heinz Hoenig had to be put into an artificial coma. In several high-risk procedures, doctors removed his esophagus and replaced it with a reshaped portion of his stomach. In total he was in the intensive care unit for 143 days.

In the past few months, Heinz Hoenig's condition has continued to improve. In between, the actor even stopped by a celebrity event.

A few days ago, Heinz and Annika Kärsten-Hoenig appeared in an emotional Instagram video and spoke openly about the difficult time. “You saved me,” the actor said to his wife at the time. Now there is another reason for the family to take a deep breath.
