Serious accident on Saturday afternoon: A 21-year-old driver hit two people on their e-scooters. A woman later died in hospital.
Hauneck/Bad Hersfeld – A terrible traffic accident occurred on Saturday (May 2nd) on the cycle path between Hauneck-Unterhaun and Bad Hersfeld. A 53-year-old woman lost her life and her companion was seriously injured.
Fatal accident on cycle path: car hits e-scooter driver
A 21-year-old man from the Hersfeld-Rotenburg district was driving his Audi on the “Zur Burg” street at around 1:10 p.m. As the police report shows, a catastrophe occurred shortly after the junction with the “Vollmarsburg”: for reasons that are still unclear, the car hit two people from the Kassel district who were stopping there with their e-scooters.
The force of the impact was so severe that the 53-year-old woman had to be resuscitated on site. She later died from her serious injuries in a nearby hospital. Her 50-year-old partner was also taken to hospital with serious injuries. The young driver suffered a shock.
Because the 21-year-old was suspected of being under the influence of alcohol, an on-call judge ordered a blood sample. The Fulda public prosecutor's office also hired an expert to accurately reconstruct the course of the accident.
The vehicles involved – the Audi and the two e-scooters – had to be towed away. The police put the material damage caused at around 11,600 euros.
Accidents with e-scooters are not uncommon. A few days ago, an e-scooter driver hit a pedestrian. She was seriously injured. The person who caused the accident fled.
