The Bright Market in Schlüchtern in the Kinzigtal started in bright sunshine. A colorful program awaits visitors until Sunday.
Schlüchtern – The sun meant well for the people in the mountain town of Schlüchtern: Just in time for the start of the Helle Markt on Friday (April 24th), the sun shone from a cloudless blue sky. In the late afternoon the streets slowly began to fill up – and at the official opening the town square was packed with hundreds of people.
They strolled through the alleys to stalls selling household goods, books, toys and, again and again, various kinds of delicacies. The streets Unter den Linden, Obertorstraße and Schloßstraße have one thing in common this weekend: they serve as a shopping mile and invite you to stroll.
Sunny start: Bright market in Schlüchtern attracts hundreds
While many traders were still preparing their goods, restaurateurs were turning on the ovens and grills – or waiting for rolls to arrive late – the street was slowly but surely filling up. The children in particular got their money's worth at this time of day. Trampoline, bouncy castles and the children's carousel made the eyes of the young ones shine – and the hearts of the adults melt.
The “Dixie Oldies” played on the town square in time for the official market opening. As it filled up, impatience grew. The reason: Mayor Matthias Möller (independent) was a good five minutes late. At least he had a good reason. He just came back from an awards ceremony.
The city has received an urban development award for a joint project with the Main-Kinzig Disabled Workers' Association, which aims to combat vacancies in the city center. Möller: “The city receives 3,000 euros for every minute of delay. That should be forgiven.” He acknowledged all the helpers and welcomed the showmen.
Mayor Matthias Möller referred to the varied program with music events and the new art festival. As soon as the speakers of the Wito trade association, David Gärtner and René Daniel, had spoken their greetings after Möller, the audience became restless.
Actors from the Vienna Mask and Music Theater (from Ahlersbach) loudly announced their presence – carrying a large-format painting to introduce the artists involved in the festival and to drum up advertising. When Kalte Markt President Oliver Ohrmann had finished tapping the draft beer in two strokes, the barley juice was allowed to flow.
