Did someone intentionally put out rat poison?
On Tuesday (April 21st) a 32-year-old woman was walking with her little daughter in the center of Monheim am Rhein. In front of a shopping center, the one-year-old girl suddenly discovers pink pellets and puts them in her mouth. The police assume that it is poison bait.

Luckily, the mother acted immediately! Because the mother immediately suspected it might be poison, she alerted the emergency services. The child was taken to a hospital as a precautionary measure and admitted as an inpatient; there was no danger to his life, the police said.
As the Kölner Stadt-Anzeiger reports, the worried mother then raised the alarm on social media: “These poison baits were distributed everywhere on the benches and at the water dispenser!” The woman is also said to have shared photos of the small pink poison pellets in a Facebook group. “I am shocked and disappointed that poison bait is lying around in the open in our city, where many children play and are out with their families every day.”

Police are now investigating assault in Monheim
The police, who only found out about the incident two days later, are now investigating unknown persons for grievous bodily harm. She asks witnesses who have made suspicious observations in the area of the benches in front of the “Monheimer Tor” shopping center to come forward. It is completely unclear who could have put the poison there. (jgr, with dpa)
