Free Hessentag sausage for a good cause: The Fuldaer Zeitung invited people to a big tasting of the official Hessentag sausage “HETAWU” on Uniplatz.
Update from 1:37 p.m.: In bright sunshine, numerous people came to Uniplatz to test the Hessentagswurst. “All hell is breaking loose,” one reporter reported before it even started. Since then, the “HETAWU” and the Hessentag wake-up call have been sold in unison. And: It seemed to taste good – the feedback was consistently positive. Torsten Petzholt from Lauterbach said: “Almost like a Thuringian bratwurst. It's nice and crunchy, chewy. “You can tell that it's a coarse bratwurst.” By 1:30 p.m. almost all the sausages are gone – only three are left.
“It's a great idea that they came up with a recipe for this great Hessentag project and combines it with regionality. It's good that the butchers' guild got together and came up with this community idea,” says Ralf Jost from Künzell. The Fulda students Sophia (27) and Andrea (24) from Mexico as well as Daniel (27) are also happy about the Hessentagswurst. “This bratwurst tastes like summer.”
FZ donates “HETAWU” – bratwurst is well received by test eaters
Christoph Burkard from the Fulda region is also enthusiastic: “The bratwurst is a specialty and for us it is also a cultural asset.” He would like it even better if there was caraway in the bun, but either way he likes the idea. “The bratwurst is 'foll Hessian' and therefore an ambassador for the region.”

Fulda – First report from April 24th, 11:58 a.m.: The smell of grilled food wafts across University Square: 400 freshly grilled Hessentag sausages are waiting for test eaters on University Square today from 12 p.m. to 2 p.m – for a donation to the FC campaign “I need your help”. Everyone is welcome – while stocks last. Once the 400 sausages are sold out, the promotion is over.
Big crowd: Fuldaer Zeitung grills Hessentagswurst on Uniplatz
Huge crowd: Even before the start at 12 p.m., numerous hungry test eaters were lining up and patiently waiting for it to start. There is no stranger responsible for the perfect preparation of the bratwurst: Georg “Schorsch” Koch, former landlord of the Enzianhütte, is personally at the grill and supports the editorial team. Above all, honest feedback from the test eaters is required.

The “HETAWU”, which is considered the state festival’s culinary ambassador, was developed by the Fulda butchers’ guild, led by master butcher Maximilian Gies. The flavor profile is deliberately regional: coarse caraway and strong black pepper give the pre-cooked bratwurst its distinctive note. “This is how Fulda tastes,” is the self-confident credo of the makers.
In keeping with this, the Hessentags-Weck is also served on the table: the Happ bakery from Neuhof created it especially and is happy to support the tasting on Universitätsplatz. During the Hesse day The sausage itself is then offered on Borgiasplatz. The sausage should be available in selected businesses in the region before the official start of sales at the end of April.
Parallel to the “HETAWU” tasting event, there is a tasting event on Uniplatz As part of a RhönEnergie campaign, free ice cream from the “Ice Saints”.
