A look at the Hessenliga map reveals: There are no derbies for Hünfelder SV, but there are still highlights over the course of a season. The biggest one is on Friday evening (6:15 p.m.), as the designated champions Eintracht Frankfurt II will be playing at the Rhönkampfbahn.
Hünfeld – The outgoing HSV coach Johannes Helmke is clearly looking forward to it – and not just because he has been a fan of the only Hessian Bundesliga team for ages. “There are an incredible number of Eintracht fans in the region. This game is the perfect opportunity to see really good young professionals up close.”
Game of the year: Hünfeld welcomes Eintracht Frankfurt
After the industrial accident of relegation, Eintracht will celebrate direct promotion back to the Regionalliga Südwest in a few weeks. “This is the superior team in the league. That was clear before the season and that has been confirmed,” says Helmke, who calculated that Frankfurt scored 12 of the 21 goals in 2026 from set pieces – one of the many strengths.
In any case, the general conditions are right: Hünfeld has scored the most points in 2026 after Frankfurt and Giessen and is confident going into the game: “We can and want to be a little bit self-confident. Of course we know that we have to suffer extremely defensively against this team, which we can do.”
“But we have nothing to lose, we can approach it with fun and want to set our own tone.” Last but not least, Helmke and the HSV can be happy that this year, for the first time, a game will be played on the Rhönkampfbahn grass pitch.
The HSV also offers a colorful supporting program at the game: The Eintracht fan shop from Fulda – operated by WEMAG – brings along a wheel of fortune: “Every spin is a win. A spin costs two euros and all proceeds go to a good cause,” says Christopher Schaus, managing partner of WEMAG.
Schaus will also be giving away four of the coveted standing room tickets for a Bundesliga game in the coming season from its own inventory. “We just hope that a decent sum comes together. Every euro helps.” The proceeds go to the “Hünfeld problem children”.
Die-hard Eintracht fan Schaus is looking forward to the game anyway: “If the U21s are in the region, I of course want to watch them. It will be a nice evening at the Rhönkampfbahn.” The branch of the Eintracht fan shop in the heart of Fulda was opened by world champion Uwe Bein in November.
